Do You Know Where is Recto University?

Quick, tell me where to find Recto University.

If you are living in Metro Manila region, I’m pretty sure that you are familiar with this “school”.

If you are looking for job abroad but don’t have enough credentials, there’s a big possibility that you want to visit this “school”.

If you are student who is undergoing a deadline pressure to finish your essay or term paper, I guess you are thinking about this “school” also.

For those who are not familiar with this place, let me give you some background.

Recto is a street in Metro Manila that is very popular  in producing spurious documents from birth, marriage and death certificates, college diplomas, various government licenses, essays, research and term papers,  and almost all kinds of certifications and academic documents.  Of course, these are all fakes!

I’m just wondering why the authorities are not doing anything to stop  the establishments along this street that are producing these counterfeit documents.

If you are a student who wants to finish your term paper before the deadline but don’t have the time to do it, I suggest that you use the power of technology.

When I was a student, the internet was still in it’s infancy. To write my term paper was really a problem at that time because I had to spend a lot of time in the library to research for a particular topic that I want.

But thanks to technology – specially to Mr. G (also know as Google) , it is now easier to search for any topic that you desire to write. There are even a lot of companies providing cheap term papers.  If you are really, and I mean really loaded with a lot school tasks already, you can actually let these companies  write your term papers for a very low fee.  These companies  employ a pool of good writers and researchers that can provide you quality term papers instead of buying them from Recto University which we all know are mostly junk content.

Dear readers, please avoid enrolling or visiting Recto University. We should not be proud of  graduating from this unscrupulous “school”.

How Do You Save Money?

Saving money is a way of life.

Saving money is a prerequisite of investing.

But how do you exactly save money? What’s your budget?

How much do you put away a week?
How much do you spend on food?
How much on gas?
How do you split your rent / mortgage up?

These are just some of the questions that you can find on OrlandoForums.com regarding our topic today.

Here are some of the answers  to those very basic and fundamental questions by the members of the forum (at random):

1. Save at least 10% of your income each month and you will surely go a long way in growing your money.

2.  5% on transportation but if  you drive – count  gas, insurance, maintenance and parking. This can go up to a little less than 20%.

3.  15% on food and groceries including toiletries.

4. 5%-7% – for all kinds of  bills such as electrical, phone, cable subscription etc.

5. 20%-30% – payment for mortgages, taxes and insurance.  Keep this  part as your savings if you’re not paying mortgages.

6. 5%-10% – incidentally a lot of the members are paying off  some kind of debts specially credit cards. Consider yourself lucky if you don’t belong to this group.

7. %% – the left over is for everything else such as clothing, entertainment, medical cost etc.

One of the senior members of the forum suggested the following  very practical ways to save money:

  • Cook instead of eating out
  • Don’t speed to save gas
  • Make sure everything you don’t use is unplugged except for your fridge and alarm clock
  • Ac temp never changes
  • Got on a family plan for cell phone
  • Paid off debt and never use a credit card unless you can pay the balance
  • Paid off car debt, never buying a new car ever
  • Teach your girlfriend how to be cheap like you.

I love the last point.

Dental Care for Children

My eldest son, who is already 7 years, arrived the other day with a note from their school dentist that he needs to have his teeth check for dental cavities. He’s two upper front teeth in the middle are already permanent but the others are still milk teeth or temporary.

My wife is too worried about the dental health of my son. Although my son who seldom eat sweets like candies and chocolates, we are still worrying what’s causing the decaying of his teeth.  We didn’t have any choice but to bring him to a dentist that same day. It’s good thing that there is a dental clinic near our place.

We consulted the dentist and she told us the decaying of our son’s teeth was caused by bacteria. Since our son is still drinking milk twice a day – first during breakfast and the second is before he sleeps – the dentist told us that he should wash his mouth with water specially at night after drinking his milk. This is to avoid the development of bacteria from the sugar in milk.

The dentist also reiterated that dental care for children begins well before a child’s first tooth appears by cleaning their gum periodically and should see a Pediatric Dentist about six months after the first tooth appears.

Tooth decay is a preventable condition. Let’s help our children to have healthy teeth by having a regular visits to a dentist.

Debt Settlement Help

Most of you probably know what is debt consolidation but have you ever heard about debt settlement?

First some background what most people do in trying to solve their debt problem.

Recession, loss of job, hospitalization and other unexpected life changes can result in financial difficulties even for those who manage their debt well.

When we find ourselves having problems in making ends meet, the first natural course of action is to take a look at the budget and find ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses. This first step can help us pay down debts and keep monthly bills current. Unfortunately, this is just a stop gap until we can really find either a better paying job.  But what happens when we can’t solve our debt problems with budgeting?

The next step is we need to seek outside help.  It’s really  hard ask for someone’s help specially when you’re having money troubles, but if you don’t gain control over your debts, your credit rating will suffer. So it’s better to take charge of your debt before it’s too late.

Most debtors turn to debt consolidation like  transferring high-interest debts to a lower interest credit card. This is often done to secure a lower interest rate. However, debt consolidation does have definite drawbacks. Closing numerous accounts and putting all of your debt into one account can negatively affect your ratio of debt to available credit, lowering your credit score.

Another popular option for those with debt problems is debt arbitration, debt negotiation or debt settlement. Whatever term you are going to use, it is a way in which the debtor and creditor agree on how to approach the debt.  Usually, the creditor will give a reduced balance which is considered the full payment. The debtors can either pay this new reduced balanced in full or in terms as well. It depends on the debt settlement agreement that you will undertake.

By seeking a debt settlement from the creditor, it can often prevent us from going to bankruptcy.

This is an email  that I received the other day which I want to share to all KayaMoPinoy.com readers.

ABS-CBN Foundation launches Bayanijuan sa Calauan

By: Faizza Farinna T. Tanggol

CALAUAN, Laguna–Informal settlers living along the Pasig River and esteros now have hope for a better life thanks to “Bayanijuan sa Calauan”, the 107-hectare resettlement project that supports the Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) movement.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) has provided the scenic Calauan site adjacent to the Nagcarlan Mountain Range in Laguna. “This resettlement site is actually owned by the National Housing Authority. We [at NHA] had a memorandum of agreement with ABS-CBN Foundation where we gave them authority to manage the Calauan housing project,” explained Rico Laxa, General Manager of NHA, “There are 800 houses here ready for the families, we just have to fix it a bit-paint the houses and have doors and windows installed. I’m sure the site will definitely improve with the help of ABS-CBN Foundation and their partners.”

KBPIP, a partnership between ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), has taken on the challenge of rehabilitating the river waters in seven years.

An important phase in achieving the rehabilitation process of Pasig River is to relocate the estimated 4,000 families currently living near Pasig River and waterways leading up to it, as these households contribute to 60% domestic wastes in the Pasig River, according to a PRRC study. Bayanijuan sa Calauan, the official resettlement site of KBPIP, will provide shelter, livelihood, child welfare, environmental initiatives, microfinance and disaster-risk reduction programs to the families.

“Bayanijuan sa Calauan is about showing how the Filipino spirit can be, how we can all work together,” Gina Lopez, managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation, clarified during the site’s inauguration, “This is an ideal place, where we can bring the informal settlers from Pasig River to transform and improve their lives through Bayanijuan.” Read the rest of this entry

Business is the Answer to the Crisis

Business is the Answer to the Crisis (“Sagot sa Krisis, Business!”) – this is the battle cry of the radio show I was listening into  every Saturday nights. The show – Radyo Negosyo – is being aired on DZMM – a local radio station here in the Philippines.

It’s a very informative show that presents topics on entrepreneurship and new business ideas. What so good about the show is that it features successful businessmen and entrepreneurs who mostly started from nothing.  The only downside is – it’s only a weekly one-hour program which is really very short for a full-packed show like this. The show airs from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In this 1 hour alone , you will learn a lot from their guests and resource speakers who are mostly experts on their fields.

Most of the time, they  give gifts or prizes to their weekly listeners and phone callers. If you are lucky enough, they also gives financial help  and provide assistance to their deserving listeners specially to those who has a business plan already.

Since the show have won numerous times already, it was awarded the much coveted “Hall of Fame” for winning the  “Best Business News Feature recognition from the Catholic Mass Media Awards.

The show is being anchored not less than Dr. Carl Balita, an educator, entrepreneur, an actor, producer, writer. a professional singer, nurse and a business leader rolled into one! His encouraging voice in the airwaves really inspire the Filipinos to bring out their best when it comes to setting up their own business and be optimistic about it in spite of the economic crisis.

Tune in to DZMM Radyo Negosyo every Saturday nights if you want to be inspired and wants to know the  best business for you. Who knows, you might be featured as their next “successful entrepreneur”.

Believe In The Strength Of Your Dreams

For Nenita Raymundo, only one thing spells the difference having money and having none. “It’s attitude that matters most,” she says.

Nenita believes that attitudes got her where she is right now- a unit sales manager of life insurance firm Nippon Life Philippines. Her resume boasts impressive achievements including, among others, being named Consistent Achiever & Annual Awardee by Nippon life. She was also given that title by her previous employers, including Sun Life Of Canada, Lincoln Life Insurance, Ayala Life, Fil-Estate Realty Corporation, and Berkely International Life Insurance.

Yet life was not always good for this 57-year-old mother of four. She came from impoverished family and she never finished college. But rather give in to her circumstances, she fought back. “I hated poverty, and if you really hate poverty maaalis mo yun.”

While working as a receptionist in 1966, she discovered her knack in selling. While serving coffee to visitors, she successfully convinced them to buy real estate. A year later, she pursued a sales career full time.

One important lesson that Nenita learned early on was that you shouldn’t be ashamed of who you are. “hindi ko na-feel ang hiya. ‘Pag naglalakad ka, wala namang nakadikit sa noo mo na nagsasabing doctor, nurse, or lawyer ka, di ba?So I realized it is only your attitude that will defeat you. I can talk to both president and the janitor and make them feel at ease.”

Before you can save, you have to have the money to save- and this is still a matter of attitude. Some people want to become rich, yet what are they doing? Read the rest of this entry
