A Better Patriotism

If Einstein were alive, he would tell us in our faces that we are very much insane.

I received an email today from one of the business groups/forum that I’m a member of. As I read the email, I was surprised on how the author described “patriotism”. As you know, one of the thrust of KayaMoPinoy  site is to bring back and provide discussion on some of the beautiful traits of the Filipino people  like  the bayanihan spirit and more.

I want to share this email and hopefully will kindle the patriotism spirit and move us to action.

Patriotism is love for your own country at it’s best. There are many ways you can be patriotic. The ways can be violent or peaceful. The effect can be short lived or would last a lifetime. The Philippines needs more patriots. What can you do to be one? What can you do for our fellow countrymen?

DOING SMALL THINGS.

You can do small things to be patriotic. Be the best employee or do the best you can in every little thing that you do. But what are these little things? How can these little things affect our country.

Each year, CNN gives $100,000 to the winner (from a field of ten finalists— winnowed from 9,000 nominees from all over the world) of its “Hero of the Year” award. This year, a 28-year-old Filipino, Efren Peñaflorida, made it to the top ten. (A panel of 12 well-known personalities from various fields picked the finalists. Colin Powell was among the judges this year).

If Efren wins this year’s award (based on how many votes he gets, which will depend on us), he will be able to expand his mobile school program for the children of the slums in the Philippines.

What this young man is doing to improve the lives of the kids in the slums is truly inspiring.

Philippine Orchid Society is currently holding a show  dubbed as 63rd Mid-year Orchid & Garden Show which started Aug. 27 ,2009  and will end on Sept. 7, 2009 at the Orchidarium Park of Quezon City Hall, East Ave. corner Elliptical Rd., Quezon Cityholds Orchid And Garden Show.

This year’s show theme: “Growing Orchid for Health and Wellness ”.

The show features an orchid and landscape competition from among the country’s top collectors, breeders and landscape experts at the sprawling open space exhibition area of Quezon City. The commercial section boasts of about 70 suppliers carrying the widest assortment of plants and garden supplies, as well as other specialty booths from the Society’s partners.

Entrance fee is only PhP30.00 for adults and PhP20.00 for students and senior citizens with valid ID. Group discounts will also be available.

This momentous social event is also intended to enhance current or prospect linkages and cooperation among domestic and foreign guests and tourists, government attaches, and visionary garden enthusiasts.

The place is a venue for plant shows, exhibit and trade fairs usually visited by approximately 20,000 guests, students, foreigners, and plant connoisseurs. The POS had been holding its orchid and garden shows in this venue for the past 6 years.

Q. How will the business applicants pay their new business name application with GCash? They must first apply/register with Globe.

A. To pay their BN application via GCash, here are the simple steps:

(a) Go to http://www.bnrs.dti.gov.ph or http://www.dti.gov.ph and click the Business Name Registration System (BNRS) icon;
(b) For registered users, type the Login and Password and press Sign In to gain access to Dashboard. Otherwise, press Create Account to register first;
(c) Select New Application, fill-out the online BN form, and select E-payment (GCash) on page 7, as mode of payment;
(d) Enter the eleven (11)-digit GCash registered mobile phone number;
(e) From their mobile phones, reply the SMS requesting for the entry of mobile personal identification number (MPIN);

Q. What will the client receive to confirm their GCash e-payment?

A. If the GCash e-payment transaction is successful, BNRS E-payment Confirmation Receipt will pop-up from the clients’ computer screen. There is an option to print the said page which serves as the Official Receipt. Also an SMS with GCash E-payment Reference Number will be sent to the mobile phone.
