I received an email today from one of the business groups/forum that I’m a member of. As I read the email, I was surprised on how the author described “patriotism”. As you know, one of the thrust of KayaMoPinoy  site is to bring back and provide discussion on some of the beautiful traits of the Filipino people  like  the bayanihan spirit and more.

I want to share this email and hopefully will kindle the patriotism spirit and move us to action.

Who would have thought that a killer snail can literally kill a pain? This is how Dr. Baldomera M. Olivera presented his new discovery, now commercially known as Prialt.

Prialt is taken from cone snail’s venom which contains conotoxins. Dr, Baldomera and his team from University of Utah found out that the cone of of venomous marine snails characterized several dozen neurotoxins. This neurotoxins are now widely used in neuroscience research.

In 1992, Olivera’s team identified the analgesic-like qualities of conopeptide from the cone’s snail. An active ingredient called Ziconotide was found and later was made available to the public with a trade name  Prialt.

Our house is currently mortgaged for 10 years. By February of next year it’s already our fifth year. My wife and I are planning to refinance our mortgage if the interest is lower than the current one we have. This was emphasized today by Dr. Rey B. Aquino, PhilHealth President and CEO in support of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s and Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III’s call for all-out efforts to address the increasing number of leptospirosis cases noted in hospitals, particularly in the National Capital Region, in the aftermath of typhoon Ondoy.

Noting that leptospirosis icterohemorrhagica may be classified as Case type C, Aquino said that PhilHealth members who might be admitted in Levels 3 and 4 hospitals may avail themselves of allowances for hospital room and board fees of up to P800.00 per day and allowances for drugs and medicines of up to P28,000 per single period of confinement. “They may also avail of as much as P21,000 for supplies, x-ray and other laboratory exams that may be administered during the entire period of confinement,” he said.
